Every job runs on dedicated NVENC and AV1 hardware encoders spread across three continents. A 10-minute 1080p clip is typically ready in under 20 seconds — roughly 40× faster than a desktop software encoder running on CPU alone.
Set bitrate mode (CBR, VBR, CRF), keyframe interval, colour space, chroma subsampling, HDR metadata, audio channel layout and sample rate. Every parameter is exposed through the interface and mirrored one-to-one in the REST API.
Upload hundreds of files at once and apply a single preset to the whole set. Parallel workers keep the queue moving while you watch progress per file, with automatic retries if a transfer is interrupted.
If you only need to change the container, ConvertVid skips re-encoding entirely. Streams are copied bit-for-bit, meaning zero generational quality loss, sub-second processing and perfectly preserved timecode metadata.
Files are encrypted in transit with TLS 1.3 and at rest with AES-256. Jobs run in isolated containers with no shared storage, and every upload is irreversibly purged two hours after completion — or instantly, if you press delete.
Create jobs with a single POST, receive signed webhook callbacks on completion, and pull results from short-lived URLs. Official SDKs for Python, Node.js, PHP, Go and Ruby are maintained alongside the public OpenAPI specification.
Burn in or mux subtitle tracks (SRT, VTT, ASS, TTML), keep multiple audio languages, and extract or replace individual streams. Speaker-separated audio tracks can be exported independently as WAV or FLAC.

ConvertVid started in 2019 as an internal tool for a small post-production studio that kept losing days to overnight transcoding queues. The first version was a shell script and a borrowed GPU. It converted a season of television in an afternoon and the team never went back to the old workflow.
Today ConvertVid is a distributed transcoding platform that processes millions of jobs every month for creators, streaming services, universities, newsrooms and independent filmmakers in more than 140 countries. The product has grown, but the principle has not changed: the fastest conversion is the one you never have to think about.
We are a fully remote team of 40 specialists — video engineers, codec researchers, infrastructure architects and support staff who actually watch the files they help convert. We publish our uptime, our median queue latency and our incident reports openly, because a conversion platform is only as trustworthy as its numbers.
You pay for output minutes, not for "credits" or arbitrary file counts. Cancel any time, and unused minutes on annual plans roll over for 12 months.

On the Free plan individual files are capped at 2 GB, Pro allows 20 GB per file, and Business and Enterprise plans support uploads up to 200 GB per file with resumable chunked transfers. There is no limit on the total number of files, only on how much you convert in a given billing period.
Not if you do not ask it to. When the source and target codecs are compatible, ConvertVid can remux the streams without re-encoding, which is mathematically lossless. When a re-encode is required, our presets default to perceptually lossless bitrates, and you can always raise the quality ceiling manually in the advanced panel.
Converted files and originals are deleted automatically two hours after the job finishes. You can delete them immediately from the dashboard. Enterprise customers can configure retention from 15 minutes to 30 days, or disable storage entirely and stream results straight to their own bucket.
Yes. Paste a direct HTTP or HTTPS link, an HLS or DASH manifest, or connect Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive or an S3-compatible bucket. ConvertVid downloads the source at datacentre speed and begins encoding without routing the file through your own connection.
The engine handles resolutions up to 8K, frame rates up to 240 fps, and HDR formats including HDR10, HLG and Dolby Vision profile 8.1. Tone mapping between HDR and SDR is automatic and can be overridden with a custom LUT.
You create a job with a POST request that contains a source, a preset and a destination. The response includes a job ID. When the job finishes, we send a signed webhook to your endpoint with the download URL and a checksum. Rate limits start at 60 requests per minute and scale with your plan.
Yes — the Enterprise offering includes a self-hosted worker that joins your cluster and registers with our orchestration layer. You keep the files, we keep the scheduling, monitoring and preset engine. It is the usual choice for medical, legal and government clients.
Failed jobs are retried automatically up to three times on a different encoder node. If the failure is deterministic — a corrupt source or an unsupported stream — we refund the minutes and show you the technical reason, including the exact encoder log line that stopped the job.
